The sign-off on $5million invested into a series of research commercialisation projects by a Canberra fund manager has signalled a small but important attack on the ‘valley of death’ in Australian research.

Significant Capital Ventures is an Early Stage Venture Capital Limited Partnership which pools money from universities and investors who can take a long-term view of risk and have an interest in getting ideas from the university lab into commercialisation.
The amounts involved are typically small: one of its investments was just $50,000 others range from $100,000 to $1 million.
